Service Charge Disputes
Service charges are the charges made by a landlord to a tenant for services provided in accordance with the lease such as insurance, electricity, water, sewerage, building maintenance and similar.
Issues arise either because the tenant is failing to pay the relevant charges to the landlord, or because the tenant does not accept the payments to be made and seeks confirmation of the payments made by the landlord.
In both situations we will advise landlords and tenants as to their obligations and their rights and remedies. Court proceedings may need to be issued if the rent is unpaid, however the tenant has the right to apply to the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal (LVT) to assess the service charge demands of the landlord.
